Superb Sunday for British Motorsport

For most of the motorsport fraternity, the 2014 is now consigned to the history books. But despite all focus now on 2015, Sunday saw more success for British motorsport.

In Barbados, David Coulthard clinched his first Race of Champions victory, going one better than his previous result of second which he achieved back in 2008 at Wembley Stadium.

The 13-time Grand Prix winner defeated young German Pascal Wehrlein in the final of the head-to-head knock out event, one day after finishing runner up in the Nations Cup event teamed with compatriot Susie Wolff.

On the other side of the world in Glasgow, 2014 Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton won the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The Mercedes driver won the award after taking his second F1 crown in a dramatic season which saw him fight tooth and nail with team mate and childhood friend Nico Rosberg.

"I was sitting there saying Rory's going to have it, I thought it had to be someone else" said Hamilton who beat favourite Rory McIllroy to claim the award.

"I am so speechless. I'm so proud and honoured to be among such great sporting talent." added the 2007 and 2008 runner up

Also on the night, cyclist turned professional racing driver Sir Chris Hoy won a lifetime achievement award.
